Porcelain is one of the most delicate materials for making tableware. Although things made of it are extremely fragile and susceptible to damage, it is still really popular around the world. The visual effect that porcelain creates is extraordinary and definitely worth the money. When it comes to money, tableware made of porcelain can be quite expensive. No wonder you want to make sure you take good care of it. What to do to make it look beautiful for a long time?

Avoid extreme temperatures

Porcelain is really fragile. Therefore, it should not be exposed to extreme temperatures. Don’t use anything extremely hot or cold. It applies to both drinks and washing water. Sudden and rapid changes in temperature should also be avoided. Therefore, when serving your guests warm tea or coffee in porcelain cups, make sure they will not use it to drink soda afterwards. If your porcelain is dishwasher-safe (it should have an appropriate marking), don’t use hot-water programs. Some people even say that porcelain dishes should not be washed in the dishwasher at all and that it is better to wash them by hand.

Clean it gently

Try to use mild detergents to clean porcelain. It is also not allowed to use sharp sponges: even if your porcelain does not have any pattern, the structure of this delicate material can be damaged if you use a sponge that is too hard. A soft cloth or sponge, warm water and mild dishwashing detergent should be fine.

Clean fast

When serving food or drinks in porcelain, be sure to wash it right away. This is especially true if we are talking about hot sauces or drinks that leave a residue behind, for example, coffee or tea. It is very important to wash the porcelain immediately after the meal is finished. In this case, don’t put it off till later, as this may adversely affect the material, its structure and appearance.

Store it properly

As mentioned earlier, porcelain is fragile. And you probably want to enjoy it for a long time. Therefore, first of all, don’t drop it. That might sound a little crazy: after all, who deliberately drops the things they want to keep? The general idea is to be extra careful when using porcelain. But don’t push it too far: yelling at guests when they don’t take care of your porcelain is not the best idea. In addition, porcelain requires appropriate storage conditions. Stack plates with napkin spacers between them. When it comes to cups, try to keep them separated so that they do not touch each other. Also, if you want to protect your porcelain from premature fading due to exposure to sunlight, try to find a more shaded area for it.

In general, remember that even if you love porcelain, it is just a thing. Try to take a good care of it, but if you accidentally break your favourite cup or plate, don’t despair. This could be a good opportunity to go shopping.
